The Hobbit

My talented friend Danny recently set up a small collective//group to set briefs and projects to keep us motivated in these tough post uni times. It has only just begun and very much in the beginning stages. But once things are rolling expect lots of things. Challenge One was to create a book jacket for The Hobbit.

Two colour screen print.

As I go.

Here is an experimental piece. I want to start playing around more with layering different colours on top of each other in order to produce another colour. In the future the blue will need to be a little lighter, which in turn will also make the green a little lighter. This should bring all the colours together onto the same level. Unfortunately some of the type isn't legible. However there is potential.

Three colour print. Run of five.

New prints

Hello internet, sorry for being so quiet generally and in terms of illustration. I'm not really sure where the past few months since graduating have really gone, but hopefully more artwork will be produced more steadily from now on.

Here is a couple of new prints to ease my way back into the world of printmaking.

One colour. The line work was drawn in by hand on each print. Each is a limited edition run of seven.

Detail shots.

Hoping to have some of these on sale sometime next month.

Also Mr Henson has just realised a new album filled with miserable songs. Its good. Go listen

Shop.

Hello internet. I have finally got an online shop selling me screen prints. A super cool thing is that I am selling things along side hot shot illustrators such as Tom Gould and Graham Carter. I will (hopefully) be constantly updating this as and when I create new prints.

Please go have a look HERE

Awesome.

Coming Down

October has been a miserable month. Part of the reason for this is due to screen printing. Lots of things have been going wrong and as a result my screens are basically useless, not only is this super expensive, but it also puts me way behind schedule. However these said screens have now been shipped off to be stripped and re-meshed. So while I wait for those I decided to play around with lino cutting...

I haven't used this print method for about a year, so it was surprisingly fun.

Also the cat has taken to sitting on peoples desks // work this week.

Murmurations

A couple of weeks after my exhibition at New Designers I received a lovely email from a very positive and friendly woman named Helen. From what I gather Helen works in the childrens book department at a rather successful publishing house called Harper and Collins. In this lovely email Helen wanted to see some more characters that were in a similar vein to my foxes, she also asked if I had thought about putting the fox character into a story. This is what I sent her...

A collection of character prints and one full artwork print.

The full artwork print came from a kids book that I wrote. I've never done something like this before, so the whole experience was all very refreshing and exciting.

(I'm going to save the storyboard images for another blogpost.)

Character Prints:

All of this was packaged up and sent off this morning.

There is nothing guaranteed in doing this but it was nice to create some new artwork for a different reason compared to my usual prints.

The future holds more prints // shop // greeting cards // a move to London.
